The 7km Ukhua Road Race concept was birthed to add colour, glamour, fanfare and funfair to the now Internationally recognized yearly Au Ukhua Carnival that draws both local and international tourists. This is in addition to inculcating the spirit of competition, resilience and excellence in the youths in neighbouring communities of Afenmai and entire Edo State.
The inaugural edition which was flagged off by the Honourable Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba took place 26th December, 2021 as one of the key peak activities of the Au Ukhua Carnival.
The immediate and medium term objective of the organizer is to ensure that it receives approval of both the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) as well as get the endorsement and certification of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF). This no doubt will lay a solid foundation for its global visibility and acceptance.
